Photography can be healing. Until the fall of 2020 walking Henry’s Beach in Santa Barbara has been family affair for close to 40 years. Body surfing, swimming, picnics and tide pool hopping were a part of our time at the beach one-way-or-the-other. Then my brother, Ray, fell deathly ill with cancer and my walks were made to step away for a short time to refresh and reset before returning to his side. One this one walk details like this starfish under a rock were jumping out at me. I walked the shore to find solace during these hours of grief and impending loss.

A Samsung s10e Camera Phone was used to make this photo of the Star Fish. The camera automatically selected these settings – lens 4.3, at 1/50th second; with an F-Stop set at f/1.5;  and at ISO 800.
