I woke at 4am; broke camp; packed the car; Ukiah, my dog, riding shotgun of course; having spied a spot in the dim overhead light on Pleasant Valley Drive in my trusty Colorado Gazetteer; we drove into the night before the sunrise near Ridgeway, Colorado. As night turned to day and the sun rose over the Court House Range illuminating the Sneffles Range in the San Juan Mountains at Dallas DivideÑthe most amazing atmospheric conditions developed as the wind swirled. A massive rainbow formed against a veil from a rain squall stretching from the heavens to the valley below.

A Pentax 67II Medium format camera with a 55mm lens, f-22, shutter speed at 1/60th of a sec and Fuji Velvia Film (ISO50) were used to capture the powerful rainbow over Dallas Divide.
