It had snowed for two days before I woke early to photograph the Flatirons just a block away from my bungalow at 7th and Cascade in Boulder. I was looking forward to arriving at the meadow before anyone else to photograph untouched snow covering the meadow beneath the Flatirons. As it turned out a 2nd year CU Boulder Bio-Chemistry Grad student had beat me thereand was carving perfect telemark turns on his cross-country skis! He had only made one run and was hiking up for a second when I yelled to him, Òmake figure eights!Ó He executed perfectly as the clouds broke and sunlight diffused as it filtered softly through the clouds edges to light up skier making tracks and the Flatirons at the same time. I was in Heaven!

A Nikon F-4 Camera with a Nikkor 55mm lens with the shutter setting at 1/200th of a second; F-Stop f4.0; with Fuji Velvia Film ISO 50 were used to make this photograph of the skier and Flatirons.
